WHAT DO I NEED?

Form W-7 must be completed and signed by the applicant. The IRS requires this form to request an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.
Download Form W-7A current passport is the only stand-alone document that establishes both identity and foreign status. Additional residency documentation can apply to dependent applicants.

An ITIN is used for federal tax purposes by certain people who need a U.S. taxpayer identification number but are not eligible for an SSN. It does not authorize work in the United States, change immigration status or qualify someone for Social Security benefits.
The IRS generally requires identity and foreign-status documentation plus a federal tax return unless an IRS exception applies. We help you understand which path may fit your situation.
The IRS states that applicants generally receive a response in about seven weeks. It may take nine to eleven weeks during peak periods or for applications submitted from overseas. LatinX Services cannot guarantee IRS approval or timing.
An ITIN expires when it has not been used on a federal tax return at least once during three consecutive tax years. Renewal may be needed before filing a return.
